Mehran Kardar ((ペルシア語:مهران کاردر)) is a prominent Iranian born physicist, full Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and co-faculty at the New England Complex Systems Institute. He received his B.A. in Cambridge University, and gained his Ph.D at MIT. Mehran Kardar is particularly known for the Kardar–Parisi–Zhang (KPZ) equation〔Mehran Kardar, Giorgio Parisi, and Yi-Cheng Zhang, ''Dynamic Scaling of Growing Interfaces'', Physical Review Letters, Vol. 58, 889–892 (1986). (APS )〕 in theoretical physics, which has been named after him and collaborators. He has a son named Kaveh. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2001.
